The following pages are intended to give you a brief overview of ACTO’s activities and projects.
Burns
Developing New Therapies
The eye clinics at RWTH Aachen University and in Cologne-Merheim can draw on a wealth of clinical experience in the acute care of chemical burns, as well as in subsequent therapy. This experience forms the basis for developing long-term research concepts.
High-Speed-Camera
Seeing what otherwise remains invisible…
ACTO’s laboratory equipment has been expanded with a high-speed video camera (Optronis CR3000x2) to optimally document processes at biological interfaces over time.
A sensor resolution of 1,696 x 1,710 pixels ensures highly precise imaging.
The camera can record videos at up to 100,000 frames per second, making even the fastest processes visible.
The recordings can also be further refined using specialized analysis software.
SARS-Cov2
Vaccination via the Eye
Since infection with SARS-CoV-2 occurs via the mucous membranes and replication primarily takes place there, immunization should begin or be enhanced in this area. The site of initial viral contact plays a crucial role in an optimal immune response.
So why not use an existing vaccine and administer it, highly diluted, into the conjunctival sac of the eye? If this is where the initial contact with the virus occurs, a corresponding immune response, including the production of IgA, should be detectable, ultimately leading to sterility.
